Airship speak

I don't know about english airship parlance, but in german, airships were driven and the parlance reflected that.
For a german airshipman of the 20's, an airship wouldn't fly at an altitude, it would drive at a distance to the ground (or sealevel). It wouldn't ascend or descend, it would come nearer to the ground or get away from it. The idioms were basicly the same a seaman would use, with ground becoming a coastline.

How is that in other languages?
